TENS Machine for Knee Pain
A PORTABLE, DRUG-FREE OPTION FOR MANAGING KNEE PAIN
Knee pain can make everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, exercising and even sitting uncomfortable.
A TENS machine (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) provides a portable, drug-free option that may provide temporary pain relief for some types of knee pain. Small electrical impulses are delivered through electrode pads placed on the skin around the painful area, stimulating the nerves and helping to reduce the perception of pain.
TENS can be used at home or on the go, making it a convenient option for people looking for a non-medication approach to managing knee pain.
TECHNOLOGY THAT COMBINES PAIN MANAGEMENT AND MUSCLE STIMULATION
Our TENS/EMS machines offer DUAL FUNCTIONALITY, giving you both TENS and EMS functions in one device.
One device. Two functions.

BENEFITS OF USING A TENS MACHINE FOR KNEE PAIN
TENS provides a non-medication option that may provide temporary relief from some types of knee pain.
Electrode pads can be positioned around the knee according to where you are experiencing pain.
Control the intensity of the electrical stimulation to find a comfortable level that suits you.
Portable and reusable, making TENS a practical option for people managing recurring knee pain.
TENS PAD PLACEMENT FOR KNEE PAIN
Correct electrode placement can make a difference to your TENS experience.
For knee pain, pads are generally positioned around the painful area rather than directly over the kneecap. Where you place them will depend on whether your pain is primarily at the front, side or back of the knee.
With a dual-channel TENS machine, four pads can be positioned around the knee to provide broader coverage of the painful area.
WHAT IS CAUSING YOUR KNEE PAIN?
Knee pain can have many different causes, including arthritis, overuse, sporting injuries and other knee conditions.
TENS is used to help manage pain rather than treat the underlying cause, so persistent, severe or unexplained knee pain should be assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional.
If your knee pain is associated with arthritis, see our dedicated guide:
TENS AFTER KNEE REPLACEMENT
TENS may also be considered as part of pain management during recovery following knee surgery, but using TENS after a knee replacement is different from managing general knee pain.
You should follow the advice of your surgeon, physiotherapist or other healthcare professional regarding when and where TENS can be used following surgery.
PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE TIP
Did you know that some private health insurers may provide rebates towards the purchase of a TENS machine?
Eligibility and rebate amounts depend on your insurer and level of cover.

PORTABLE PAIN MANAGEMENT AT HOME OR ON THE GO
Our TENS machines are compact and portable, allowing you to use your device at home or take it with you while travelling.
TENS doesn't treat the underlying cause of knee pain, and results vary between individuals. However, some people find TENS useful for temporary pain relief as one part of their overall pain-management approach.
USING TENS SAFELY
TENS should feel comfortable rather than painful. Do not place electrode pads over broken, irritated or infected skin, or other unsuitable areas.
TENS may not be appropriate for everyone, including some people with implanted electrical devices such as pacemakers. If you have new or unexplained knee pain, have recently injured your knee, have undergone surgery, or are unsure whether TENS is suitable for you, seek advice from your doctor, physiotherapist or other healthcare professional.
Seek medical advice for severe or persistent knee pain, significant swelling, inability to bear weight, or pain following a significant injury.
TENS is intended to assist with temporary pain management and does not treat the underlying cause of knee pain.
